Black British Film @ David Lean Cinema: Young Soul Rebels
Tuesday 03 October 2023 at 7.30pm, £5
As part of Black History Month and our BH365 Launch on 03 October, we are partnering with David Lean Cinema to bring you the first of 2 Black British classics:
Young Soul Rebels.
When a close friend is killed while cruising in a local park, pirate DJs Chris and Caz, along with the local black community suspect the National Front, but the police arrest Chris as their main suspect.
The debut feature film of director Isaac Julien, Young Soul Rebels is a fascinating look at British culture in the late 1970s, which is part-thriller, part-gay love story. Together with his partner Caz, Chris, a young black London DJ, runs a pirate radio station Soul Patrol from an East End garage. When a mutual friend is murdered whilst cruising in a London park, Chris is arrested for the murder. This is Croydon – London Borough of Culture screening.
